Lilac T shirt and leggings - Winter loungewear

I made more loungewear:

Ok maybe its a bit overkill now but I made them so they get posted.

Here is a T shirt and leggings made from the same lilac fabric as my dress was. The leggings are a very basic pattern I used several times before - most recently my tiger statement leggings and the top is Butterick B5562 view D without the extra neck piece. I have made it several times before. Its easy to make and nice to wear. The easy to make bit being very relevent with this particular velvet which is a pig to sew!
Admittedly they look a bit PJ-ish here but as seperates they are very wearable in public for every day life.

Well I messed up the hem and unpicked it which left a small hole on the hem of my top so then I folded over and just made a mock band which cut off the small hole. Genius! Never thought to do that before but its well worth remembering if you mess up in that way - assuming your top is long enough that is. Mine was, because I had already cut it extra long. It never ended up long of course but it did end up very wearable instead of having a bit of damage which of course was right on the front.

And these have been worn a lot over the last few days and I am very happy with them despite I was disapointed with the pale lilac when it turned up. Its one of the fabrics I was misssold last year from a discount online store. I bought one thing and got something very different from one seller. Still you eventually learn who to buy from. I actually fnally made some nice things from this velvet too so in the end I am happy. And its gone from the stash!

See you next week

Bat top - Butterick 5562

Well I seem to be having a  constant Goth/ Halloween these the last few weeks. Not really anything to do with 31st October (Halloween that is), Samhain or any other wicked witchy stuff I just like gothic fabrics.

This is made from the rest of my swimwear fabric that I used for my bat bikini back in the summer. Its Butterick 5562 but with the most basic version of the sleeves. Its meant to have a collar on top but I have never yet made that I just seem to go with the basic boat neck long sleeved top and I love it. I used a contrast thick mesh for the sleeves due to having not enough of the bat fabric. I think it works very well though. I have worn this several times over the last few weeks and enjoyed it every time. Its very good with plain jeans. Its actually swimwear fabric but that does not matter at all. Its worn here wih my pink yoga pants.

And here it is with an upcycled skirt made from the rest of the Christmas Tree Gothic Fairy's dress. Or at least its the last bit left over from the second hand ballgown I cut up for the fairy's dress.

Yes a bit OTT this outfit I suppose but I wanted to wear my new boots ( bought last summer from ebay but new in the box and do look unworn)

Its really just the panelled satin skirt or what was left after I used most of the bottom of it for my skull dress hem.I added some lace to make it a tad longer and finish it off and elastic round the waist. Yes its a bit short but over leggings will be fine. Maybe not quite this clothing combo tho😀

I wore it twice the last week and like it lots despite its so simple a design and salvaged from a small bit of left over upcycled ball gown.

In fact for just a £1 at a jumble sale I got a lot of use out of that second hand ball gown. I really need it gone from my stash tho and now thats sorted. Its been hanging around since I think 2012. Far too long. I never actually had a stash as such back then. Wow has it grown!

In a completely different vein, I also made a table cloth this week; for Christmas!

Well its a bit boring I suppose, but stash busting, and very practical, and I do need to start to think about Christmas now, rather than have the usual last minute making rush. Its even got proper hems rather than my usual just overlocked hem I seem to do for Xmas table cloths. Tho not mitred corners. I may attempt that next year.
I am actually very pleased with this and its been on the small lounge table for the last week or so and so far has no coffee stains which is a miracle. Its a lovely satiney gold brocade with latin words all over it. This bit of fabric has been in the stash a few years now and never found a use till now. It should look good for Christmas anyway once I have some nibbles and cnadles on it.

Well thats it for now. As of Thursday this week the UK is back in lockdown. Joys or what!

Stay safe and see you soon

My warm winter yellow T-shirt

Hello, I am starting to feel very Christmasey now. The weather has gone very cold. It even snowed in Kilsby this morning. I was feeling cold at work. I felt too hot with a jumper on ( I keep one in my desk drawer just in case) but feel not warm enough with just a normal Tshirt so I made this yellow top.

Its the same fabric I used for the hoody cowl dress here:
http://brackencrafts.blogspot.co.uk/2015/12/7-burdastyle-092015-hooded-cowl-neck.html

Not sure what the fabric is but its kind of bonded and textured and synthetic and very warm - or for a T-shirt its warm. I was originally going to twin needle the hem so overlocked the edges just for neatness but decided actually I quite like the simplicity of this so thats it.

This is view D of Butterick B5562 again and without the collar. This pattern seems to be the top T-shirt pattern of the season for me right now.

I already made two other tops from this same pattern.

This one is completely different due to the fabric choice.

You can see my other versions here:
http://brackencrafts.blogspot.co.uk/2017/10/multi-media-t-shirts-tms-october-2017.html

This is seriously a very quick make but I have worn it, washed it and worn it again in the same working week so a very good top I think.

I was not too sure about this fabric when I originally bought it, but it has made two very nice garments.

It was an ebay impulse bid and I won the auction! It is not realy my normal kind of fabric.

I do not mind synthetic lycra - as in workout type fabric and even things that can pretend to be lycra but are just polyester if you know what I mean.

When it arrived I was so unsure whether it was useable so just shows because something is synthetic and maybe not what you would normally buy it can work out well.

Anyway I need to make a few more winter tops so will be sesarching through my stash again now.

Other than that I made a Christmas cake.

It was baked in an Ikea silicon heart mould and was a bit of an experiment since I did not line it with baking paper although I did put a baking paper top on it while it baked for about 4 hours!
Its the first Christmas cake I have made in many years and now we are feeding it with brandy.

Thanks for visiting, Bracken
